On August 10, 2024, the IMFS Delhi Organizing Committee issued a call for a March for Science from Viswavidyalay Metro Station to DU Arts Faculty Gate No. 4. However, the police and administration began efforts the previous evening to prevent the march from taking place. They even threatened legal action against the organizers if the event was not canceled. After careful deliberation, the plan was modified, and a shorter march was held at DU Arts Faculty Gate No. 4, followed by a public meeting.
Approximately 100 individuals, including students, teachers, professors, science activists, and members of the general public, participated in the program. Prof. Dibyendu Maiti (Professor of DSE, DU), retired principal Mrs. Sharda Dixit, Dr. Vinay Kumar (Associate Professor, DU and Coordinator of IMFS Delhi Organizing Committee), Mr. Dinesh Mohanta (Science Activist and Organizer of IMFS Delhi Organizing Committee), and students from a government school and institutions like JNU, DU, Jamia Milia Islamia, and IIT Delhi shared their perspectives on the growing threats of climate change, the proliferation of unscientific claims and concepts, and the imperative for scientific temper.
